Myvitamins.com were kind enough to send us a pack of both their Complete Energy and Complete Sleep supplements to review with each containing 30 caps, enough to thoroughly test for this review. For those unfamiliar with Myvitamins, they are a relatively new brand having started up around June 2012 by the team behind Myprotein, one of the leading sports supplement and nutrition companies in the UK. The ethos of Myvitamins is simple; to provide effective supplements without the jargon via a simple, clean, easy to use website. They have three ranges; Complete, Essential and Total with vitamins and minerals available for men, women and children. Free delivery is available on all orders and Myvitamins discount codes are available on a weekly basis across the three ranges.
I was looking forward to reviewing Complete Sleep because I usually do my workouts in the evening with a pre workout supplement that contains caffeine. This means I usually don't fall asleep until 2am on workout days so was interested to see how Complete Sleep counteracted this, if at all. I have never needed to resort to supplements such as ZMA (zinc and magnesium) although I have heard fantastic reviews from those who have sleep disorders or just can't sleep and have taken ZMA to combat this lack of sleep.
Myvitamins Complete Sleep sells for just £4.49 for 30 caps (or £8.49 for 60 caps) and is specially formulated to help you unwind and get a comfortable sleep. In the modern world that we live in, lives are hectic and problematic which means sleep can often be disrupted. How often do you hear about those in employment struggling to get the recommended 8 hours of sleep a night? I live by the ethos 'Train, eat and sleep'. Get all three right and you will grow. Failure on at least one of these will hinder your progress. It is vital to get quality sleep for your muscles to grow and for the benefit of your general physical and mental wellbeing.
Complete Sleep contains L Glycine, Griffonia Seed Extract, Inositol, Capsule (Gelatin), L Theanine, Zinc Citrate, Vitamin B6 and D Biotin. 268% RDA of vitamin B6, 38% RDA of Biotin and 25% of Zinc plus 844mg of the Myvitamins propriety blend work together to help recovery and recuperation and, therefore, is a great alternative to ZMA.
I am pleased to say that Complete Sleep, for me anyway, worked perfectly. The first time I used it was when I got back from a pre workout caffeine fuelled workout at 10pm. I took 2 caps and was able to get to sleep at 11pm and sleep comfortably through the night before waking with my alarm at 7am. This meant I was fresh and not tired for once the morning after a workout. I continued to take 2 caps at a time 45 minutes to 1 hour before I went to sleep for the following two weeks and every time I had a great sleep. Myvitamins recommend taking 1 to 4 caps 30-40 minutes before you sleep.
As I previously mentioned, this could just be because I usually sleep relatively well anyway but from a personal viewpoint I thought Complete Sleep worked and would be interested to hear from anyone taking it who struggles to get to sleep regularly via Twitter or our Contact Us page.
Myvitamins Complete Energy, as the name suggests, is the complete opposite to Complete Sleep. It should be taken when you need to boost energy levels which will probably mean in the mornings when you are feeling a bit groggy after waking up. Similar to the reasons why Complete Sleep will be perfect for many people, Complete Energy has a place in the market because of the modern lifestyle of today. With so much going on in our lives, we can feel rundown and devoid of energy. Complete Energy contains ingredients which can give you that little boost to kick start your day or to help keep energy levels high through the day. It retails at £19.89 for 60 caps which is enough to last for 1 month.
Complete Energy is high in B vitamins. B vitamins are known for their ability to help your body produce energy. Another set of key ingredients are the herbs Guarana and Ginseng which can provide an energy boost and are the reason why they are found in many pre workout formulas and fat burners such as Semtex, Thermopure, Capsiplex and T5 Black. Check out our review of fat burners to read more about the effects of Guarana.
Looking at the list of ingredients, it is interesting to note that Complete Energy is low in caffeine which is unusual for an energy boosting supplement. This lack of caffeine means by taking these you will avoid the 'crash' which can often come about when taking high caffeine fat burners. Instead, there is a heavy focus on the b vitamins plus other herbs and spices;
Vitamin E: 5.5mg (45% RDA), Vitamin C: 120mg (156% RDA), Vitamin B1: 12.5mg (1136% RDA), Vitamin B2: 12.5mg (892% RDA), Niacin: 12.5mg NE (78% RDA), Vitamin B6: 12.5mg (892% RDA), Vitamin B12: 50mcg (2000% RDA), Beta Carotene: 3mg, Guarana: 150mg (providing 8.25mg caffeine), Alpha Lipoic Acid: 30mg, Co Enzyme Q10: 20mg, Korean Ginseng: 125mg
So does Complete Energy work? For me, personally, I was a little disappointed. I felt a slight boost in energy but nothing dramatic to really invigorate me. However I wouldn't let that deter you from trying it because, as with all supplements, the effects will vary from person to person. Perhaps my body has become so accustomed to caffeine from coffee and pre workout supplements that it just didn't react to the B vitamins. This may not be the case for you or someone else, especially as the reviews on Myvitamins.com indicate that Complete Energy has worked for those who have reviewed it.
For me, it didn't quite hit the mark and I will stick to my standard cup of black coffee in the morning with green tea in the afternoons. Alternative supplements that you could try to increase your energy levels include Total Caffeine and Essential B Vitamin Complex, both available from Myvitamins.com.
