Bulk Powders High Protein Flapjacks review

Bulkpowders Protein Flapjacks

Bulk Powders High Protein Flapjacks

If you’re looking for a high protein snack, Bulk Powders High Protein Flapjacks are an option to consider. Each protein flapjack contains 21g of protein and just 2g of sugar making it one of the healthier protein bars / flapjacks on the market. Available in two flavours, Double Chocolate and Strawberry Yoghurt, I bought a box of the Chocolate flapjacks for this review.

Priced at just £21.99 for a box of 18, each flapjack costs £1.22 which is about average when compared with some of the other protein flapjacks available to buy in the UK. There are cheaper options (per flapjack) such as Bodybuilding Warehouse Protein Flapjacks, CNP Pro Flapjacks and Reflex High Protein Premium Flapjacks but there are also many that cost more per flapjack (i.e. Optimum Nutrition Wholly Oats, Warrior Feast Protein Flapjacks and Sci-MX Protein Flapjacks).

Protein and carbohydrates in each Bulk Powders protein flapjack

The main source of protein in each bar is a combination milk protein isolate and whey protein concentrate (which is normal). This protein blend mixed with the flapjack rolled and malted oats means these protein flapjacks are ideal if you are looking to build muscle mass and size. They are however also good to eat for anyone looking to maintain and retain muscle as a slow release carb source.

As I’m sure you’re aware, protein flapjacks tend to contain more carbohydrates than protein bars which is why they are usually a good snack for bodybuilders looking to build size. These flapjacks contain around 39g of carbohydrates each which, if you look at our ingredients comparison table, is a reasonable amount with other flapjacks ranging from 31g - 59g.

Bulk Powders High Protein Flapjacks taste

I bought a box of the Double Chocolate protein flapjacks without buying from Bulk Powders before. Firstly, delivery was very prompt with no problems whatsoever. I ordered midweek, paid a small fee for next day delivery and it duly arrived next day.

The box containing the flapjacks looks very stylish and is durable. The design makes it look good on your work desk or at home.

Each flapjack is wrapped in a silver plain wrapper which is easy to tear open without causing any crumbs from falling from the flapjack.

The texture of the flapjacks themselves were the problem area here. Now it is important to note that I only tried the Double Chocolate (chocolate base and chocolate filling) and my impression of these is that they were chewy.

They actually taste very nice (good chocolaty flavour) and they're also an excellent size and very chunky but you do need to work quite hard to chew through them.

With this in mind, I had a look online to see some other reviews. I noted;

  • On Bulk Powders website, these have a 5 star average review
  • Customers noted exactly the same regarding the ‘chewiness’
  • However they also noted that the Strawberry Yoghurt bars are LESS CHEWY and TASTE EVEN BETTER
  • I also looked on a few bodybuilding forums where other customers said the Strawberry Yoghurt flavour was a lot easier to eat and even had a better taste than the Double Chocolate

So it seems the Strawberry Yoghurt flavour flapjacks are the ones to go for when you buy the Bulk Powders protein flapjacks if you want something that is a bit moister and easier to chew on. I am going to buy a box to see if I agree with these other comments from buyers.

Based purely on the Double Chocolate flavour flapjacks, I would say I have eaten better flapjacks before (in terms of taste and ease of eating) such as Bodybuilding Warehouse Protein Flapjacks and Optimum Nutrition Wholly Oats but the taste is still good with these.

Given the Strawberry Yoghurt flapjacks seem to be getting the better reviews and customers across various websites have described these as excellent and some of the best protein flapjacks they have ever tried, I am going to try these next and see how they compare.
