Myprotein Protein Muffins Review

Myprotein Protein Muffins are a high protein snack/dessert with 19g of protein per muffin and available in two delicious flavours

A protein treat for your sweet tooth

If you have a sweet tooth it can be difficult to resist those unhealthy snacks and treats which unfortunately are stacked full of sugar which makes them highly addictive as well as capable of adding inches to the waistline. Step forward the power of protein with protein desserts that can help you tackle that sweet tooth. There are many recipes springing up daily on the internet for protein cookies, protein muffins, protein oatcakes, protein pancakes and protein mousse. But if you don't want to make your own using protein powder or simply don't have the time, it is worth considering buying straight from the retailer such as USN Protein Dessert, Genetic Supplements Muscle Mousse, Myprotein Protein Cookies and, a product we have just tried, the Myprotein Protein Muffin, packed with a huge 19g of protein per muffin!

Myprotein sent us one of their Toffee Fudge and one of their Chocolate Chips muffins to try for this review, the two flavours currently available to buy. They come in a very stylish box and cost £8.99 for a pack of 6. Each muffin is 90g in size so quite bit considering most protein bars are 60-75g. The good thing about these is that after one muffin you won't have an urge to go for a second or third as they are quite filling. So have 2-3 a week and you have two weeks worth for under a tenner.

The Myprotein Protein Muffins are manufactured by an external supplier so they are freshly baked rather than being baked and stored for months in the Myprotein warehouse. Myprotein only order small batches at a time to keep the fresh quality. Perfect for those on the go, they are great as a high protein snack or as a treat after one of your meals. The baking process ensures they are light and fluffy but also, more importantly, very flavoursome and a good size. What I really liked about these was the texture; many protein bars are very dry but these muffins, although full of protein, are soft and moist, easy to consume and taste delicious.

Both muffins were excellent but my favourite was definitely the Toffee Fudge. As soon as I had a couple of bites I recognised the quality of it and the taste was just fantastic with the small chunks of toffee very moreish. The Chocolate Chips one excelled on the amount of chocolate chips it contained, every bite seemed to have plenty in there rather than skimping on them which you might find many supermarket muffins do.

If you're looking to lose weight or maintain lean muscle, we don't advocate eating these protein desserts daily because they do contain 36.1g of carbohydrates per muffin of which sugars 19.8g and 16.9g of fat but, as a treat to consume 2-3 times a week, they are great to add into your diet to tackle any sweet tooth cravings which you may get. After all, we're all human and all get these cravings. Each muffin only contains 387 kcal so you won't be adding too many calories by taking one every few days.

So in conclusion, these muffins taste great, are of a high quality and contain a high protein content making them the perfect snack to top up your protein levels. Both the Toffee Fudge and Chocolate Chip are excellent although I do favour the Toffee Fudge if I was to choose between the two. Other high protein snacks you may wish to consider include the Myprotein Protein Cookies, USN Protein Delight Cookies, PhD Nutrition Pro Oat Cookies, CNP Pro Flapjacks, Biltong, Beef Jerky, USN Protein Dessert, CNP Pro Dessert and BSN Lean Dessert.
